Whether you’ve been blogging for awhile, or are just getting started, having a specific topic or niche that you blog about is one of the best ways to grow your blog.

You may be wondering why– Let me tell you! If you have one central topic that you consistently write about, your readers (and hopefully, eventually subscribers) will know what to expect from you and will return to your site, again and again.

Now, onto 6 steps to finding YOUR perfect niche!

Step 1: Take the time to determine the true purpose behind your blog? What problems do you want to solve for your readers? It’s important to choose a niche that you have a deep interest in, it will make it easier when it comes time to do research. To find out what you’re really interested in, try asking yourself some pointed questions.

Step 2: Keep in mind, when choosing your niche, it should be something you want to eat, sleep and breath. YOU want to be the specialist!

Step 3: Hopefully at this point you’ve loosely decided on a topic. But, before deciding definitively, you want to do some research. You’re going to check to see if people are actually doing searches for terms associated with this niche.

Step 4: Now, time for one of the most important parts of determining your blog’s niche; will it be profitable? If you are planning to monetize your blog, you want to make sure that there’s great opportunity to make money with it.

Step 5: At this point, if your idea has passed through all of the steps above, you want to start researching the needs of your audience, and then do some keyword research to find topic ideas that will get your blog ranking

Step 6: Finally! You’ve made it. You have a perfect niche that you love, is highly searchable and will be profitable (in time). Now, it’s time to start filling your blog with relevant content.

If you’ve been blogging for a bit, you might be thinking that this topic is of no use to you, but it can be. Think about it– if your blog and the content you share, isn’t streamlined to one narrow focus, you can go through these steps and actually narrow what you’ve been writing about. Trust me, it’s worth it!
